Excellent book for young makers wanting to work with wood.

Book has very few projects and the ones it has are disappointing.

I have been an avid woodworker for about 15 years. I enjoy many types of projects, but i gravitate towards box making and joinery. I became interested in woodworking by helping my kids with their Pinewood derby cars. From design to painting and sealing my kids were involved in every aspect of their cars. Now, teenagers we look back at those times with great fondness.Most kids seem to gravitate towards building things at some point in their lives. Woodworking for Young Makers aims to get them beyond the initial confusion of what to make and how to start, and get the kids to focus on what needs to be done. The book is highly illustrated with pictures and images a child can relate to.While the book has four main projects, the goal of the book isn't about the objects being made, but the basic knowledge of tools and tool safety that is involved. Each project adds a few new elements to show the kids new tricks. It will hopefully demystify the garage and "Dad's tools" for your kids.This is a great book. I could not recommend more highly. It is a book for both parent and child. Parents should guide, encourage, and always congratulate their little workers as they march their way through this book.
This book allows for a nice introduction to making items with tools. Mostly our kids "make" using cardboard and tape, so this was a step up in a way. Some hand tools, some electric. We had the basic tools like, like a hammer and wood, though to make it easier you will need a saw (hand or electric) and a drill. It definitely talks a lot about safety. The "maker" is a red robot like thing, not particularly appealing to all but I can see how some kids would like it. I like that the kids are equally male and female, and more than just Caucasian. There are 4 projects: making a wizard wand, a sanding block, a charging stand (its not as easy as it sounds) and finally a secret compartment box. They also talk about finishing the wood, and eventually how to choose nicer woods. My kids are makers but I am not super creative, so this was a nice way of introducing those concepts and helping ME in a way help them.
I was so happy when this arrived. My nephew is 8 and was so excited when we went over it together. We decided to do the wand and I will tell you this is FANTASTIC. A step by step book full of safety tips. Great projects _ we did the magic wand. And Very easy Do-It-Yourself projects. The author kept in mind his young audience. That is key. The pictures are well done. I give this 10 stars if possible. You will find this to be great for all ages. LOVE.
