Though the focus is on regulation and its economic effects, Digital Crossroads examines everything from how digital technology works to landmark federal court cases affecting the Internet. Be prepared to re-read many of these passages, as the twists and turns of evolving policies can often get confusing, especially in the chapter on the Universal Service Fund. This is due more to the nature of the policy than any fault of the authors, who take great care to explain each new word and concept.
This book should be mandatory reading for the Telecommunications Masters program at Syracuse University. I learned more about Telecom from this book than I got from the entire program. If you are new to the world of Telecommunications (or even an old pro) you will absolutely get lot out of this book.
Great background for someone getting into the telecom world or anyone looking for a refresher. I just started working on telecom policy earlier this year, and this book has provided helpful background and context, weaving enough detail to be a serious resource with a conversational style that makes it very readable and accessible to the novice such as myself.
