Many Christians, myself included, are intimidated by the numerous sophisticated arguments levied against Christianity by unbelievers. I have found myself reading the rebuttals of Christian scientists and apologists to arm myself against these many technical objections to the Christian faith. The problem is: I forget their main points within a few days! Craig Biehl greatly simplifies the defense of the faith for the believer. This is not to say that it is simplistic. Far from it. His method focuses upon the infinite excellence of who God is as revealed in Scripture compared with our limited understanding of ourselves and the world he has created. When we do that, the fundamental faith assumptions of the unbeliever are shown to be irrational.

Christian theologian and apologist Craig Biehl presents a compelling and solidly scripture-based approach to defending the faith in his wonderful book, God The Reason.Rather than refuting, one by one, common objections to Biblical theology, Biehl strikes at the root of unbelief by challenging and exposing its unjustified and faulty faith assumptions. ERIN FRENCH turned a string of early catering gigs into a secret suppers series in her apartment. She took her dinners on the road, organizing traveling "fork-to-field" dinners from a tricked-out 1965 Airstream trailer, before returning to her tiny hometown, Freedom, Maine, to build her dream restaurant, The Lost Kitchen, in a restored 1834 gristmill. I recently treated myself to this book after reading about The Lost Kitchen and Erin's story. The book itself is absolutely beautiful, and the stories really give you a sense of place. I loved reading Erin's stories about Maine, her ingredient sourcing tales, and recipe notes. Really I wish there was more - this sharing makes it much more than a cookbook (which I personally love - I know not everyone feels this way about "cookbooks"). Erin's story is very inspirational to me personally as I'm in the beginning years of owning a small creative business. The recipes are varied - many traditional New England with a modern update. Many entrees feature meat (again, it's what's local and seasonal) which my family doesn't eat super often but we'll be turning to these when we do. There are some wonderful seafood preparations along with how-to's (ie. how to eat a lobster, anyone?) that I look forward to trying. Several desserts have also piqued my interest. If you eat seasonally, most especially in the northeast or Pacific northwest, you will find that these recipes call for easily sourced ingredients. Thank you so very much for sharing your story, Erin. I can't wait to visit your restaurant one day soon.

This book is beautiful, and the recipes look delectable (my disclosure is that the book just arrived and I haven't tried making any yet). I have fond memories of growing up in Unity/Freedom, ME. But not only does this bring me back to life in this small town, it brings me back to the very house I grew up in where the author now lives (so I had heard and now see). To see photos in this book of the red cape where I sang so many Happy Birthdays to the barn where I slept afternoons away in the loft, thank you, Erin French, for bringing it all back and sharing such a lovely place with others. Perhaps someday I'll be fortunate enough to make a reservation in time to enjoy your culinary talents at the Lost Kitchen on one of my many trips "home" each year. In the meantime, I'll practice perfecting your seared scallops from afar.

This cookbook is amazing! I wish I could make something from it every day. Erin French (author/chef) also has a restaurant in Freedom, Maine. I haven't been (because I sadly procrastinated with the reservation process - they book up for the year within 48 hrs of taking reservations and I screwed up with the postcard reservation deal this year), but anyone who eats food should try to go. The reviews are amazing, the setting is idylic, and the whole experience just seems magical. The Lost Kitchen. Look it up and go there. Seriously, look it up and go there. It is in an old mill building (beautifully renovated) located in the Maine woods - what's better than that?!

The most beautiful cookbook that I now have in my collection. Everything about it is classy. Erin French's story is engaging to read tied in with the enticing recipes, She also includes how to make handmade napkins and how to season a cast-iron skillet.The photographs are stunning. I am hoping that she will remain with the Lost Kitchen Restaurant for awhile so that I may be able to be one of the lucky ones to taste the magic from the cook that wrote this book. Karen

I want to eat at this restaurant. The author is a good writer and well worth taking the time to read her story. I have made several menus from this cookbook. I would use pumpkin from the can rather than cook your own squash. It was so salty I had to throw it away, it is a shame as the crust was delicious. The same for the pork roast - too salty. Unfortunately these were both items for Christmas dinner. The stew is perfect I used beef stew meat that I bought from the butcher. I will try more but will cut all salt in half.

I initially bought this recipe book for myself. The recipes are so good, and the book so pretty that I then bought two as gifts. My two giftees now want to buy some to give as well. The baked beans recipe is absolutely delicious!

All wonderful. I served the salad nicoise with halibut at a dinner party and the compliments included " the best meal ever". The peaches with honey are wonderful. I down loaded as soon as I read a review. Voila

Not the most practical cookbook...a lot of wood fired recipes and rare ingredients like rabbit and moose...I’ll only use a couple recipes at best

Great book on knife making. Given it's age I was apprehensive about the price and content. Then I saw it listed as an ex-library sale at a price that did not cause my wallet concern. I am sure glad I watched it and made the purchase, Mr. Bergman has a easy writing style and encourages enjoyment of knife making as a hobby and artistic expression. He explains traditional methods (Think Mora and Scandinavian styles) based on equipment available in the 1980's - no tool is rare or expensive and his own workbench is modest. This book has improved my skills at knife making and I am looking forward to making a wooden sheath. He includes instructions on several methods and I am looking forward to it. Also the discussion on handle making is top notch.Note: the techniques do not include blade making or tempering, the book presumes that you purchase the blades.

I got the recomendation for this book off the Ragweed web site. It was rather hard to find, but Amazon found it for me. I am a beginner knife maker, and this book is perfect for a beginner, you will learn so much. Why bother making a blade when you can buy some great blades from Thompson's Scandinavian Knife supply or North Coast knife supply. Who has the time or equipment to forge a blade? You can get a nice Lauri pt with a rockwell sharpness of 63 that will be sharper than anything you now own. Bo will show you how to make the handle and sheath for your knife. He has quite a few step by step projects that are incredibly detailed. The knifes turn out great and they will be unlike any you see on the net. Many of the Scandinavian web sites just have pukko style knives. He has a large varitey of scandianvian knifes. He has instructions for a handle made out of layers of birch bark that looks awesome. I am making a Sami style knife at the moment and it looks great. You learn something with each knife. His instructions on making sheaths is alone worth the price of the book. He shows you how to make all leather, wood and leather, and all wood sheaths, very cool. I would recommed this book to anyone who wants to make a very function knife that they can actually use. Many of the knife books out there show you how to make huge knives that are really not that practical, if you need a weapon, get a gun. But if you want a knife that has years of tradition behind and can be a great tool,then get this book.

Super happy owner of this great book on knife finishing and sheath construction. I found it interesting and informative. I liked the handle crafting info a lot. If you want to make some nice knives for friends, or to sell. This book will get you into making some nice tools.

Gives you all the basics in knife assembly and sheath making, but not how to forge, grind, harden, or temper a knife blade. It does not give you patterns to follow for designs on the sheaths, but several examples are given in the illustrations for the sheaths and knife handles. If you are handy with your hands, can follow directions, and can visualize the informations in the pictures, you can start making knives for yourself and friends (or for profit) with purchased blades.

This book describes how to make the hilt and sheath for Scandinavian "hunting" knives. But it is not slap-dash. Having obtained the blade, the craft person then is shown various techniques for making the hilt and securing it to the blade; then various examples of sheaths for the knife. High technical skill is displayed and the reader can use these techniques as they feel ready.

An elaborate book on how to make scandinavian knives and sheaths with simpel tools. Not about blade making. All styles of knives are described from this part of the world. Cool to see it done without big machinery, as it always have been done.

Bergman describes in clearly written detail how to craft a knife handle.
