The 1966-67 Sixers Championship is a little before my time. It was a fascinating read to learn about the late, great Wilt Chamberlain and the team that was voted the best in the history of the NBA. It was fun to read about all the great players on that team, Billy Cunningham, Hal Greer, Chet Walker, Matt Guokas; to name just a few.A terrific read for a Sixers fan and an NBA fan.

Overall, this book held a wealth of information that just isn't available elsewhere without delving through old newspaper. I enjoyed the first eight chapters, as they contain a pretty straightforward recap of the formation of the team, the actual season, and how the team eventually was broken apart. This book only gets three stars from me because of the dismissive way the author speaks of all other basketball teams that have ever existed. The 1966-67 76ers were a great team, and since the author is writing the book, it is his say in the end whether he felt they were the greatest. But the method that he takes to get to that conclusion is specious at best.Also, the author contends that in 1983 the 76ers were the first team to beat Boston in a seventh game in the Boston Garden. Actually, the Knicks were the first team to do this, en route to their second title in 1973.

I ordered this (it's been 5 years, now) for a big 40th Anniversary party I was throwing for my parents. I ordered several older magazines and books from the era for the guests to browse through.This was a big hit with the sports fans who were at the party.The book was in good shape and it was passed around and looked at a lot.

Very good book..especially if you were a 76ers fan or grew up in Philly during that era. It also shows you that Wilt was THE GREATEST basketball player ever!

As a lifelong 76er fan, the 1967 season fulfilled a lifelong dream to win it all. It was total domination for one of the best teams in NBA history.

Not quite as good as I was expecting. A bit laboured and slightly repetitive in parts.

The history of sociology and social statistics is very useful. There is also good coverage of black scholars and reformers, who were more likely to view black crime the way whites viewed white crime, i.e. as a real problem that was best dealt with by social programs, but black reformers never had the resources white reformers had, and white reformers often refused to help needy black people. Also discussion of the ways in which whites used black writing about crime problems as a justification for their (whites') anti-black sentiments.It all sounds eerily contemporary, and helps to locate today's discussions in a long historical context.

Muhammad's book goes a long way in explaining groups like Black Lives Matter. Muhammad's "Condemnation" argues that while white criminals are seen as "temporary" and therefore "reversible;" black criminals, and black crime is seen as DNA related, and therefore, not "reversible." Once you understand the history of linking blackness to criminality, and this book will cement that comprehension you will no longer, or SHOULD no longer engage in the ever so popular conversation of "black criminality."You will hear black commentators weighing in on the black criminal problem, and often use the same refrains that whites used in the 1920's and 30's. The author notes, '"the numbers speak for themselves" was one frequent refrain, followed by "I am not a racist."' So, Khalil Muhammad does an excellent job of getting to the root of black crime rhetoric using anecdotal history along with evidence of the evolution of crime reporting and statistics. Often, people think verbiage and concepts come out of a vacuum, that is why this book is important, it debunks that nonsense.If you want to be informed about how Blacks came to be condemned concerning the issue of criminality, then this is a must read. If you want to engage and challenge the "intelligent" pundits, do not hesitate in purchasing this thorough volume. It really illuminates the players in the drama of creating the idea of the black criminal.

The Condemnation of Blackness is a painstakingly researched narrative on the formation of social policy in the urban north rooted in a double-standard applied to African-Americans as opposed to immigrants of European descent, which attributed challenges faced by African Americans to their so-called innate traits to the exclusion of other factors such as employment opportunities, educational disparities and housing segregation rooted in racism. Khalil Muhammad presents a compelling discourse on the historical roots of this policy which appeared to rely more on the racial bias of its progenitors than careful analysis of the other factors contributing to then-named "Negro Problem". Dr. Muhammad's assessment beginning from the 1890 census, the inception of the Progressive Era , through the 1940s, is rooted in factual presentation of the ideas and to a certain extent the biases of the influencers of social policy with respect to African Americans. He highlights the extent to which effort was made to integrate foreign-born immigrants into society while simultaneously excluding black Americans, often rationalizing such behavior by attributing the "waste" in investing resources such as education in African Americans. These same framers of public policy decreed that the challenges of urban life for European immigrants could be addressed through social intervention, placing the blame for rampant crime, unemployment and out of wedlock births on the inherent ills of overcrowded metropolises such as New York, Chicago, and Philadelphia as a result of mass migrations to these population hubs. Interestingly, Professor Muhammad points out the fact that those same conditions existed in large cities in Europe from which the immigrants originated without those similar patterns of migration, though no policy formers took the leap of thought that these immigrants brought these problems with them. Considering the large-scale criminalization of African Americans in northern urban areas, the eventual concentration of white criminal activity in predominantly black areas, the exclusion of black Americans from access to social services and education, it is a testament to strength of character of these individuals who were able to survive (and in subsequent generations thrive) in such an openly hostile environment. The author carefully and accurately links the roots of the current issues urban areas face today, particularly in regards to crime, with the policies set in place in the 19th century. The Condemnation of Blackness is a must read for anyone who is interested in the roots of the issue of disproportionately high incarceration rates of African Americans and for those who seek understanding of this issue through the lens of critical analysis of data rather than merely using data to implement flawed decision making . In this sense, The Condemnation of Blackness serves as both a sociological study as well as a historical reference.

I truly liked the commentary this writer provides in the book. Has very easy to follow recipes and instructions. I also really enjoyed the section about what types of bakeware / cookware you would need to be successful with the casseroles. Definitely a great cookbook for casseroles and those that might want to explore fun recipes.

Comfort food at it's Southern finest with choices such as Bestest Cheese Grits Souffle, Lily's Sweet Onion Pudding, and my favorite River Road Spinach Madeleine.

This is my first Denise Gee cookbook, and I'm Impressed. I opened it, started browsing, and just kept reading -- the writing style is clear, informative, and fun with lots of side notes captioned "Lil' Dish" which give more information about topics from RO*TEL to Crawfish, to Lodge Cast Iron. Beautiful full-page photographs accompany most of the recipes, and the recipes themselves ALL look tasty, like something real Southerners cook in real home kitchens. As a bonus, I finally found out what "YA-YA" means, as in "Gumbo Ya-Ya" and the book "The Ya-Ya Sisterhood" (see recipe on page 54). Highly recommended to everyone who loves down-home Southern cooking. (Five Yums Up!)

Though we do not eat casseroles often, we are enthusiastic about traditional Southern cooking. Several of these recipes are very easy and delicious.

I used to live in the South and these recipes just bring back such wonderful memories. Albeit it wasn't in the deep South, just in the mountains of Kentucky. But it is the South to me since I grew up in Chicago, and didn't understand all the different game that goes into a wonderfully smelling casserole of game meats and veggies. I hope you enjoy this book, and take the time to try some of these mouth watering dishes.

If you're stuck in a space of uncertainty about whether or not to leave your current relationship, this is the book to help you make that decision. It digs into the mess and helps you sort out what 'radical acceptance' in a relationship requires (and really drives the point home that if you're not willing to fully accept your partner as he/she is, then you need to walk away) and how to embrace it even when that feels scary and vulnerable.Was really glad to see the author make the clear point that 'radical acceptance' is NOT about putting up with abuse or mistreatment. In fact, sometimes radical acceptance means recognizing that your partner IS an abuser and will not change, so ending the relationship is absolutely the right choice.What struck me the most is how essential radically accepting YOURSELF is to achieving the same with your partner. The author says that often we treat our partners with the same judgement we harm ourselves with. When I reflected on that, I had to admit, the last few fights with my husband involved me being super mad about things he was doing that, in truth, I was 100% doing as well.While happy couples can definitely benefit from this book, I think couples who feel stuck, half-in/half-out of the relationship, will benefit most. It really does help bring powerful clarity. Don't walk away from your relationship until you read this book!!

I read a lot of self-help books. I think in part to work on my own issues, but also, because I'm searching for the gems that are straightforward and clear about how to live a good life. My general feedback on most books is they're either too nuanced or too difficult to put into practice. Not this book. This book boils down the best advice that's out there into a simple message that's clear about how to live (and love) well. Andrea says somewhere in the book to just "love" the people in your life instead of trying to change them and THAT is the best advice.People don't change. You change. I change. But we can't make anyone do anything as much as we wish and pray that we could. If you're looking for a book at really tells you the truth, this is it. Her thoughts are backed up by some of the best writers in the field: Stan Tatkin, John Gray, Harville Hendrix... Helen Fisher. These are really big names who support Andrea's mission and as a reader, I've come to realize that it's a mission I share.I really do just want to love the people in my life. By learning how to radically accept them (yucky parts and all) I feel like I've gone a long way to healing my past and creating the life I most want to live. Thank you Andrea, from my heart. Your book truly is a gem.

For anyone who is looking for not just happiness, but deeper meaning and understanding in their relationships, this book carefully and beautifully helps one open their mind to a new perspective. Captivatingly written, Radical Acceptance is thought provoking and inclusive of so many different relationship scenarios. After reading it, one can easily apply the lessons learned not just in one's most important relationships, but in many different situations. Andrea Miller is wise and encouraging without being patronizing or self important. She is extremely relatable and has made Radical Acceptance a pleasure to read.

Truly a life changing book. I highly recommend everyone read this book, regardless of relationship status. Beautifully written, full of facts, and easy to comprehend. The author opens up and shares her experience in a relatable way. I recommended this to my ex husband, who couldn’t put it down. It allowed us both to talk about what went wrong, what we could have done differently, and how we could set ourselves up for success in our next relationships.Will be rereading frequently

I really enjoyed her message.The first chapter or two sum it up...love the person for who they are and don't try to change them.Simply explained with her examples that nail the message home.She has a lot of great information in the book, which I see from many other authors (and she cites many of the ideas). By the end of the book, it was getting a smidge tiresome and overwhelming. But hey, more techniques/advice are always good. Particularly when referencing back to the book.It isn't making my list of favorite marriage/relationship books...but it is rather good for the holistic sense.

Andrea Miller speaks to looking at love in a way many of us hadn't before. She is very clear about what is means to radically accept the one you love but most importantly, to radically accept you.I love the mix of expertise contributing to this book from thought leaders, researchers and others who have now implemented radical acceptance into their life.If you want to understand the core of love in a new and life changing way, get this book!Lori P
