This is a small guide to Memphis and some of the surrounding area.For Memphis, the sights, entertainment and events, shopping, accommodations and food are covered. There is good information including areas to avoid.The Western Plains area is briefly covered too - the Delta, Reelfoot Lake, Kentucky Lake, land between the lakes, Jackson and the south including Shiloh.Some history is included and there is good advice concerning sightseeing, getting around town and places to eat.Guidebooks seem to avoid publishing their copyright date which would at least give you an idea when you pick up the book if the information might be outdated. You might want to write 2013 in the cover so you have that for future reference. The one big minus is that there is no index which is a useful help when you are traveling and trying to find information. That omission is not helpful at all.

Good overview and helpful information about all you need to know in Memphis and surrounding areas. The information is very accurate! There are web links to many places that are being discussed, which makes it easy to do more research.We thought that we would have a difficult time finding things to do in Memphis for 5 days. Thanks to this book, we found more to do than we could get done!This book also contains information the Delta and other parts of Tennessee.

This little book is very useful for taking around with you and it provides good information on all the main attractions of Memphis. It is a little out of date now, particularly on Graceland which has had a major upgrade last year, and, for example, parking is no longer free - the charge is now $10. The restaurants mentioned in the book were well worth trying.

Yes it was precise and accurate and we loved our trip to Memphis. All of it and more. The best was the Civil Rights Museum. We spenthours there and were so moved in the year of such turmoil and injustices for our country. We certainly want to return to this city that is comingback and we thought it was really comfortable and welcoming. Thanks!

This book is geared to the person who does business internationally. I am retired. I do not travel internationally. So, of course, I bought a copy and read it cover to cover. And found it totally fascinating!More than 60 countries are listed alphabetically, and the information for each country is given in the same format, so it's easy to go from one to the other and not feel you're trying to compare apples to rutabagas.Two small nits to pick – they changed fonts for the Cultural Notes, etc., and chose a narrower font, and lighter ink which made it very difficult for old eyes to read. The second nit concerns the silhouette of the country at the beginning of each section. While it's true that Americans (of which I am one) are not as good at geography as we should be, and which is called out in this book, it would have been helpful had they added a necessary lines radiating from the silhouette a half inch or so and called out the countries next to it. OK, a third nit. I would have loved to have read about a few African countries, such as Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, &c. They did give us Egypt and South Africa, but there are so many more countries there.It would be almost impossible to produce a book of this magnitude without some glitches, which have been called out in other reviews. Personally, even with the glitches, I think the authors are to be commended for a job well done.If you are a businessperson who does business with people not of your country, whether you host them, or are the hosted, I think this book would be an invaluable book for your office. Unthinking things we do in our native countries can have consequences in another country, even one that is similar, culturally, to ours.This book shows us that one man's cup of tea may very well be a business's cup of poison.

Give this to graduates in International Studies, International Law or folks just likely to be traveling extensively. In my forty plus years in international trade has been a godsend. With the number of State Department posts unfilled at the moment and the resulting scarcity of knowledgeable advice for private and commercial endeavors for some countries, this is great, handy reference. Wish they would add more smaller countries and update more frequently but still a superb resource. Fun too just to read about different countries cultural traditions and commercial practices.

As a teacher of international students, I bought this book to give me some background, but also practice their reading skills in English, while discussing something they know--their own culture.It's a little outdated (2006, I think). That was 12 years ago, and in China, for example, a lot has changed.It's also very business-oriented. I can make use of it in school, but that's not the focus of the book. Still, it's useful.

Great reference book. I pick it up before I travel for work or meet someone new. Too bad it's not travel size, but understand why as it holds a lot of great information. It would be great if they updated it with recent history events. A lot of significant events have occurred since this was last published. Recommend to all- not just for those looking to use this for work.

Super helpful if your job is working with a lot of people from different cultures. Great gift too.EDIT 9/24/18:Just realized that most African countries are NOT there!! Just South Africa and Egypt. What about some others???? I have a lot of clients from Nigeria, and was hoping to read up on them. How can you omit the whole continent like that??

Fascinating. I can see how it would be useful for business folks, but that description does not include myself. Rather, as someone who just wants to travel and see the world, I feel like I have the inside scoop on a lot of the countries I want to visit. I will definitely keep it as a reference and consult before I travel!

I had ful reading this book and find it useful. I am Portuguese and under the Portuguese section some descriptions about our culture were not correct, but I think it is hard to know in depth everything about so many cultures. I do recommend the book.

Having worked internationally for 20 years,the book will be a great help for my 4 young adult children all just launching their careers. Laid out in a similar fashion to the Fiske Guide for Colleges so easy for them to navigate quickly - but you're only allowed to order one per account from Amazon and instead have to order from "other sellers". Very annoying. I'm assuming the publisher is trying to keep companies from ordering in bulk but 1 per customer? Ridiculous

This is the single worst book I’ve ever come across. I bought it because I’m an fan of the Outlander series and expected a well researched reference on 18th century herbs and their uses, and for that info to be tied into the book. To put it simply, the author appears to have googled various herbs and plants and hodgepodged that into a bound book. The 20-some pages of references are, in its entirety, a list of websites including Wikipedia. If this was an English 101 paper, it would get an F. The references and tie-ins to the Outlander series are sparse and not accurate. Words cannot describe how bad this book is.Photos: If you’ve read the Outlander books, you might pick up on some inaccuracies. The table of contents has an interesting structure lol. The page numbers do not match up with the table of contents. The reference pages are literally all websites. Ugh. I could go on and on.

I had read the reviews prior to purchasing so I knew what to expect. I still enjoy the book and it does have lots of information I could find online but I like it all in one place.My biggest complaint is that it is very hard to read due to typos and grammatical errors. For instance just in the intro alone, there are 2 errors right in a row."...THERE true love is eternal. I never IMAGE Jamie giving Claire..." rather than THEIR and IMAGINE. I am super sensitive to poor editing, and just flipping through the book and seeing multiple issues like this is driving me crazy, was this self published or does the publishing house need to fire their editors?!

I was thinking this would be a book about how to grow and use herbs the way they are described in the Outlander books. It's more of a list of the herbs mentioned, not how to prepare or use them.
